Shri Mahavir Ferro Alloys Private Limited (SMFA) started its operations in 2003-04 with a 100 TPD sponge iron kiln at the Kalunga Industrial Estate in Odisha. The company further expanded the capacities of its sponge iron plant with the addition of a third 100 TPD Kiln along with two 12 Ton induction furnaces with a Continuous Casting Machine (for Billet casting) in the year 2008. Adding one more feather to its expansion program, SMFA commissioned a 12 MW coal-based Captive Power Plant in March 2008 to meet the power requirements of its three 100 TPD sponge iron plants and steel melting shop (SMS).
SMFA has its railway siding, which was approved by the South eastern Railways in the year 2007, and its design and engineering got approved in 2009. The company upgraded the railway siding to a private freight terminal to cater to plants’ requirements and get the benefit from railway policies along with the added business opportunities with the various manufacturing plants in the vicinity. In 2011-12, SMFA ventured into producing power using renewable sources by commissioning a 1 MW solar power plant under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission at Tankajoda village in Sundargarh district of Odisha.
Job Objective
Responsible for overseeing mechanical maintenance in shift operations in the DRI plant
• Functional Reporting: DRI Kiln, Jigging Maintenance In-charge
• Administrative Reporting: DRI Kiln, Jigging Maintenance In-charge
Key Responsibility Areas
1. Shift maintenance
- Ensure plant uptime and 100% DCS availability to achieve production as per business plan
- Attend to asset breakdowns to minimize downtime
- Attend shop floor meetings – shift handover & breakdown corrective action
- Conduct toolbox talk for shop floor maintenance team
- Timely requisition & issue of spares for uninterrupted maintenance schedule
- Availability of spares for recurring breakdowns
- Manpower & spares planning as per Preventive Maintenance (PM) / shutdown schedule
- Daily filling of electrical logbook and digitization for analysis

- Sign off on daily Cleaning, Lubrication, Tightening and Inspection (CLTI), PM check sheets
- Ensure scheduled PMs are completed within stipulated time
- Ensure abnormalities in CLTI, PM are raised as notifications in ERP system for future work orders
- Assist electrical engg. / Lead with asset reliability projects
- Participate in cross functional Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for major breakdowns

3. Manpower
- Ensure technical training hours for shop floor electrical maintenance team is identified & provided
- Ensure minimized feed loss in delay of breakdown maintenance due to manpower shortage

4. Safety & compliance
- Ensure zero safety incidents & safety PPE compliance in plant
- Ensure compliance to IMS standards

Key Performance Indicators
1. Shift Planning
- Proper manpower planning to ensure Zero delays
- Monthly / daily job planning of technicians to ensure adherence to maintenance plans
- Preparation of shift report and handover to next shift incharge

2. Kiln availability
- Ensure Kiln Uptime to achieve Production as per business plan (apart from accretion related downtime)

- Raise notifications for any abnormalities and ensure closure of actions

4. Breakdown maintenance
- Optimize breakdown duration (time to repair the equipments - MTTR)
- Participate in RCAs and close CAPA actions

- Raise indent as required
- Ensure spares availability for maintenance work
- 100% spares availability within min-max levels
- 100% upkeep of insurance spares
