Shri Mahavir Ferro Alloys Private Limited (SMFA) started its operations in 2003-04 with a 100 TPD sponge iron kiln at the Kalunga Industrial Estate in Odisha. The company further expanded the capacities of its sponge iron plant with the addition of a third 100 TPD Kiln along with two 12 Ton induction furnaces with a Continuous Casting Machine (for Billet casting) in the year 2008. Adding one more feather to its expansion program, SMFA commissioned a 12 MW coal-based Captive Power Plant in March 2008 to meet the power requirements of its three 100 TPD sponge iron plants and steel melting shop (SMS).
SMFA has its railway siding, which was approved by the South eastern Railways in the year 2007, and its design and engineering got approved in 2009. The company upgraded the railway siding to a private freight terminal to cater to plants’ requirements and get the benefit from railway policies along with the added business opportunities with the various manufacturing plants in the vicinity. In 2011-12, SMFA ventured into producing power using renewable sources by commissioning a 1 MW solar power plant under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission at Tankajoda village in Sundargarh district of Odisha.


Job Objective


Responsible for overseeing all safety practices followed in the shift at SMFA and EIPL manufacturing locations and ensure employee adherence to defined safety policies and procedures in the shift.

• Administrative Reporting: Fire & Safety Officer

Key Responsibility Areas


1. Safety policy & procedures compliance

- Communicate safety policies and procedures among employees and contractors to improve awareness
- Ensure employee and contractor adherence to safety policies and procedures
- Escalate any non-adherence to safety policies / procedures to department head / EHS head / safety officer

2. Safety practices

- Ensure employee safety inside SMFA and EIPL premises
- Promote best safety practices across the processing plants
- Provide training on safe working conditions & Fire safety
- Ensure incident FIR report and incident investigation reports are prepared on-time for any safety incidents in the unit

3. Safety Audits

- Conduct safety audits across the unit and share observations with division heads / safety officer
- Review the status of resolution of audit observations
- Discuss safety observations in the daily meeting / monthly safety committee meetings

4. Work permit system

- Ensure adherence to permit system for working – enclosed spaces, work at height, High voltage electricity, Methane exposure etc.
- Escalate any deviation to the Safety officer / EHS head / Plant head and department HOD

5. Trainings

- Train employees on safety practices and procedures
- Ensure toolbox continuation in the plant

6. Compliance

- Ensure compliance for IMS standards
- Ensure compliance to legal requirements



Key Performance Indicators


1. Safety policies compliance

- Ensure employee adherence to all safety policies and procedures
- Escalate any deviation to department head/ plant head

2. Total incident rate

- The number of work-related accidents / injuries per 100 full-time workers
- Handle safety incidents / injuries, if any, with the help of HR / department HOD
- Ensure timely generation of incident FIR report (if any) and incident investigation report

3. Safety audits

- Conduct daily safety audit / observations to identify near-miss / unsafe conditions
- Ensure on-time compliance to closure of action points

4. Safety permit system

- Ensure adherence to work permit system in the plant
- Escalate any non-adherence to EHS head and plant head

5. Employee EHS trainings

- Conduct training in all the divisions as per safety training plan
- Ensure toolbox continuation in the plant

6. 3S & IMS Compliance

- 100% adherence to ISO / IMS standards
- Maintain 3S standards in your department


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS


- Work experience as a Safety officer in steel industry
- Safety officer certification and / or Fire officer certification

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE


- Min. 2-5 years of relevant experience required
