Shri Mahavir Ferro Alloys Private Limited (SMFA) started its operations in 2003-04 with a 100 TPD sponge iron kiln at the Kalunga Industrial Estate in Odisha. The company further expanded the capacities of its sponge iron plant with the addition of a third 100 TPD Kiln along with two 12 Ton induction furnaces with a Continuous Casting Machine (for Billet casting) in the year 2008. Adding one more feather to its expansion program, SMFA commissioned a 12 MW coal-based Captive Power Plant in March 2008 to meet the power requirements of its three 100 TPD sponge iron plants and steel melting shop (SMS).
SMFA has its railway siding, which was approved by the South eastern Railways in the year 2007, and its design and engineering got approved in 2009. The company upgraded the railway siding to a private freight terminal to cater to plants’ requirements and get the benefit from railway policies along with the added business opportunities with the various manufacturing plants in the vicinity. In 2011-12, SMFA ventured into producing power using renewable sources by commissioning a 1 MW solar power plant under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission at Tankajoda village in Sundargarh district of Odisha.


Job Objective


Responsible for sample collection, sample preparation, chemical and physical analysis of raw materials, green pellets, and fired pellets, ensuring timely reporting of quality parameters and compliance with laboratory standards.


• Functional Reporting: Lab Incharge
• Administrative Reporting: Quality Head

Key Responsibility Areas


1. Quality

- Sample collection from Pellet Plant process points. Check and collect incoming raw materials such as Iron Ore Fines, Bentonite, Fluxes, and Additives.
- Perform sample preparation and chemical/physical analysis of raw materials, green pellets, and fired pellets.
- Ensure timely reporting of test results.
- Maintain housekeeping of laboratory area.

2. Testing & Reporting

- Conduct chemical analysis and physical testing including Moisture, Size Analysis, CCS, Tumbler Index, Abrasion Index, and Bulk Density.
- Ensure accuracy and timely reporting of laboratory results to production and quality teams.

3. Planning

- Plan and ensure availability of laboratory chemicals, consumables, glassware, and testing equipment as per testing schedule.
- Maintain adequate stock of laboratory requirements.

3. Safety & compliance

- Ensure zero safety incidents while working in laboratory and plant sampling locations.
- Ensure compliance with EHS standards, IMS requirements, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Promote and maintain 5S standards in laboratory area.
4. Training

- Undergo technical and safety trainings as planned by HR and Lab Head.
- Guide samplers and trainees in sample collection and preparation activities.

- 100% adherence to sampling and testing of raw materials.
- 100% compliance to reporting of test results within defined timeline

2. Sampling process

- Follow approved sampling procedures.
- Ensure proper identification and retention of reference samples.

3. Pellet Quality

- 100% adherence to testing of green pellets and fired pellets.
- Timely reporting of quality results.
- Zero customer complaints due to incorrect laboratory reporting.

4. Safety & Legal Compliance

- Identify unsafe conditions and safety observations.
- Compliance to EHS and other legal standards.

5. IMS Compliance

- 100% adherence to ISO / IMS standards and laboratory documentation requirements.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS


- B.Sc. / M.Sc. B tech / BE Chemistry
- Experience in Pellet Plant / Iron & Steel Industry Laboratory

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE


- Min. 0-5 years of relevant experience required
- Experience in the Pellet Plant laboratory will be preferred.
